What personal data we collect, and why we collect it

Blog Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website, and we don’t want the internet to know where you live.

Newsletter

We have a little box where you can put in your e-mail address and subscribe to our newsletter, which is delivered by MailChimp. We will use that e-mail address to send you updates, special offers, and behind-the-scenes content. If you ever want to unsubscribe from the newsletter, just click the “Unsubscribe” link at the very bottom of the newsletter. We will never share or sell your e-mail address.

Contact Form

Our contact form is powered by HoneyBook, which is the app we use to communicate with our couples, manage their wedding details, and accept digital payments. You can read their terms of service here. We will never share your submitted form details with a third party, unless you specifically ask us to, in writing. (For example, some couples want their wedding planner included on every e-mail, which we are happy to do.)

If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If a data breach is discovered either on our website or on a third-party app, we will disclose it to you via e-mail within 48 hours of our discovery. We will ask users to update usernames, passwords, or take other actions based on the details of the breach.

What third parties we receive data from

Stripe and Honeybook tell us if payments are processed, and reminds us to collect payment if a card is cancelled or expired. MailChimp and HoneyBook tell us if they cannot deliver e-mail to you. Gravatar tells us if you are likely a spammer. Currently we do not receive any other data from any third parties.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Some automated decision-making happens on the website and in our e-mail due to our spam filters for blog comments and e-mail.
