The Best July Wedding Flowers

The Best July Wedding Flowers in the Pacific Northwest

Sometimes, we hear from couples that the details of wedding planning can quickly get overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing flowers. Naturally, there are tons of beautiful flowers and inspiration images. But how are you supposed to know what is blooming when?! Well, the truth is that you shouldn't have to know - our easy creative process walks you through all the best choices for YOUR wedding. But after so many years of experience, we still love talking about seasonal and local flowers, and we can't help but highlight some of our faves. So, this week, we wanted to share some of our favorite locally grown July wedding flowers! July weddings have some of the first true summer flowers, and it's always fun to have a new crop to play with. We love the vibrant and abundant summer blooms we get this time of year. Here are some of the best July wedding flowers, in our experience.

Dahlias

A wedding centerpiece with cafe au lait dahlias and other burgundy, peach, and white dahlias

Who doesn't love a dahlia? We know so many Seattleites love dahlias! They grow so well here that most home gardeners have dahlia plants in their yard. Commercially, some of the biggest tuber producers in the world can be found in our region. Dahlias are a very popular choice for wedding flowers in July, due to the wide variety of shapes, colors, and sizes available. There are no blue dahlias, but otherwise, the sky is the limit. You can always find several dahlia varieties that work beautifully for every wedding color palette!

A dahlia palette with peach, pink, and yellow dahlias as well as other July foliages and textures

One caveat: July can be a tricky month for dahlias, because sometimes they don't bloom "on time." This is especially true for the big "dinner plate" varieties, like the Cafe au Lait dahlia you see above. You may also notice that dahlias change hue somewhat depending on the time of year. As summer goes on, dahlias tend to get lighter - so the best blush dahlias don't show up until September. That said, we love how versatile they are for weddings all summer long!

Garden Roses

We will never stop our obsession with garden roses! Garden roses are the perfect wedding flowers for July, since they add stunning style, grace, and beauty to any wedding arrangement. We love the way they add softness and fullness to bouquets and centerpieces, and the swirly, kinetic petals in the center. They are the perfect flower for summer weddings, since they usually start blooming in May, and continue to bloom throughout the summer. This year, we are having an amazing season for roses! They really loved that cold, wet spring. Garden roses are some of the most expensive wedding flowers on the market, but they are totally worth the splurge. The photo below (by Between the Pine) shows how they can look in a July wedding bouquet next to dahlias, cosmos, and other locally grown July flowers. Swoon.

A July wedding bouquet with garden roses, cosmos, and astilbe

Cosmos

Apricot lemonade cosmos laid flat on a wooden table

We love cosmos for their delicate, bouncy, fun personalities! They can make any bouquet or arrangement seem a little bit more wild and delicate. They typically start blooming in June, but really take off in July with the heat. They are such a favorite wedding flower for July, and the pollinators love them. (Often, you can find bees asleep on the petals in the morning. Just another benefit of organically grown flowers!) We also love that they come in white as well as more nuanced blushy tones. These cosmos "apricot lemonade" are the perfect color to tie together blush, mauve, and sherbet yellow within the same palette. We love how sophisitcated, airy, and light cosmos can look in July wedding arrangements.

White cosmos laid flat on a work surface

Astilbe

Wedding bouquet with astilbe

That pink, frilly flower on the right is one of our absolute favorites to work with, and it's called astilbe. This bouquet has almost all of our July favorites, including dahlias, garden roses, sweet peas, cosmos, and astible! In all honestly, we don't have many great photos of astilbe, because it's only available locally for literally two weeks. It has such a short season, which makes it all the more precious to floral designers. Of course, we use it as much as we can while it is here! Its frilly, delicate spray makes such a romantic addition to July wedding flowers. We love how astilbe softens other elements of an arrangement and makes everything look so delicate. In addition, we love how astilbe reminds us of something you'd find under the sea - if Iris van Herpen made a flower, it would be astilbe.

Sweet Peas (& Their Vines)

A wedding bouquet with sweet peas, peonies, and artichokes

Sweet peas might be considered more of a "house flower" than a wedding flower. Their stems can be short, they don't last very long, and they can be high maintenance to grow. But their fragrance is indescribably wonderful, and for that reason alone, we love to tuck them into July wedding flowers! We also love that sweet peas come in such a wide variety of colors, from blues to reds to everything in between. Some of them are streaked, or fade into other colors, like the ones you see here. Their ruffly delicate blooms add instant romance and softness to any floral arrangement. And we often also use the viny bits to add interesting foliage to arrangements, because each vine has these most delicate, perfect tendrils. We can't get enough of these beauties!

Textures

A flat lay of fun textures in July including berries, fern, artichokes, and more.

Bear with me here - I know this is sort of vague. But just LOOK at some of the cool botanicals you can find July! There are all sorts of wonderful textures available to us in floral design, including things like blueberries, pea pods, and artichokes. Ferns and scabiosa grow during July, and one variety of scabiosa creates these amazing geometric grey pods. We can also get poppy pods, grasses, and vines. July is the perfect month to find beautiful textural treasures that you have never seen before, and incorporate them into gorgeous wedding flowers! In fact, incorporating unexpected textures is one of our favorite ways to create something more artistic for our wedding clients.

Planning Your July Wedding

Your florist should always know what flowers are locally available and in season for your wedding month. We've been flowering for a long time, and we are more dedicated to local flowers than ever. We continue to witness problems with imported flowers, including recent protests in Ecuador that not only shut down rose imports, but highlighted the need for indigenous management of natural resources. Florists relying on cheap imported flowers have routinely been forced to scramble, substitute, and use inferior products due to these issues. Prioritizing local flowers means that we can always make sure our clients have the best of what is available that season, that month, or even that week! And we work closely with dozens of our farm friends to make sure we can execute your vision beautifully and ethically.

Brides kissing while toasting their champagne glasses

White Wedding Editorial with Michaela and Adrienne

Over the past couple of years, COVID has had us all rethinking what weddings could look like. New words like "minimony" and "micro wedding" entered our vocabulary, and never left. We've also had to reckon with how white and heteronormative the wedding industry can feel. As a result, we decided to create a Seattle micro wedding that gave the classic "white wedding" a fresh, modern update. We loved being able to celebrate a queer love story, while also getting inspired by Seattle itself! Naturally, we used the best of September's local flowers to show that a white wedding can still be adventurous and stunning. We love how this micro wedding evokes the modern city vibes of Seattle in the fall. Of course, in true Seattle style, it even rained all day for us!

Lush White Sweetheart Table

First, for the sweetheart table design, we wanted to bring a little drama. We were so excited to pair neutral stoneware ceramics from our partners at CORT Party Rental with more glitzy items. Adding golden-rimmed glasses, golden silverware, and gold candlesticks in a mix of heights and colors really elevated the design. We also left the table bare aside from a gorgeous taupe runner. In addition, we used traditional, formal white blooms with a mixture of totally unconventional ingredients for the floral designs.

A place setting with gold silverware and white floral centerpiece
A white table with tan taper candles and mushrooms
A long white wedding table with white florals, a neutral table runner, candles, and place settings
Table details with table runner, candles, and tomatillos

Clearly, we loved mixing local garden roses and dahlias with native botanicals like mossy sticks, ferns, and snowberries. On the table, we laid out locally-grown tomatillos, mushrooms, and hellebores to tie everything together! Obviously, we loved playing with the range of neutrals in this design, including incorporating the warm neutral tones of the wooden chairs. In the end, the overall result embraces our city’s unique style, which is simultaneously luxurious and laid-back.

Minimalist Floral Installation

Next, for the ceremony, we wanted to make sure we really highlighted Michaela and Adrienne’s wedding looks. So we took a minimalist approach and used only flowering autumn clematis and love-in-a-puff vines in the corner. As a result, this framed our couple beautifully and let their love shine through!

Floral Jewelry and Wearable Flowers

Of course, we absolutely LOVE creating floral jewelry and wearable flowers for our wedding clients. We used some of our favorite designs in this micro wedding, including a floral necklace, floral cuff, hairpiece, and boutonniere. Without a doubt, we love to see how modern and luxurious floral jewelry looks on our brides. (Hot tip: moms also love having custom pieces made, too.)

A Modern White Wedding Bouquet

Lastly, we knew the bouquet had to be a show-stopper! So we mixed traditional wedding flowers like white roses with some truly unconventional materials. In September, we have some of the best botanicals all year in Seattle, since it's the perfect bridge month between summer and fall. In this case, summer favorites like dahlias paired beautifully with fall textures like snowberries and autumn clematis.

This bouquet features these amazing locally-grown botanicals:

  • White roses
  • White dahlias
  • Snowberries
  • Scabiosa
  • Orlaya
  • Autumn flowering clematis
  • Maidenhair fern
  • Mossy sticks
  • Love-in-a-puff vine
  • Green hellebores

A Celebration to Remember

All told, we love how this micro wedding evokes the modern city vibes of our neighborhoods in the fall. Once the rain stopped, we were thrilled to get some great shots of Michaela and Adrienne walking down the street!

Pink peonies ready for May weddings

The Best May Wedding Flowers

The Best May Wedding Flowers in the Pacific Northwest

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our clients over the years, it’s that the details of wedding planning can quickly get overwhelming - especially when it comes to choosing flowers! Of course, there are tons of beautiful flowers and inspiration images. But how are you supposed to know what is blooming when?! After so many years of experience, we feel like we have a pretty good handle on it. Obviously, we love talking about seasonal and local flowers. So, this week, we wanted to share some of our favorite locally grown May wedding flowers! Spring weddings use the most gorgeous and delicate blooms, and May is no exception. We are lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest, where we can get beautiful, locally grown flowers for May weddings while other parts of the country are still thawing out! Here are some of the best May wedding flowers, in our experience.

Peonies

A pink peony opening beautifully in the sun

Peonies are such classic, feminine wedding flowers, with their frilly ruffles and delicate scent! Naturally, they are a very popular choice for May weddings, since they make such a statement. The early varieties typically start to bloom in May, and continue to be harvested and sold in June. These are some of the most expensive wedding flowers on the market, but we think they are worth it. As the season goes on, peonies become more and more expensive. The last American-grown peonies are typically available in August, from growers in Alaska.

Garden Roses

Blush and white garden roses in a May wedding arrangement

Garden roses add stunning style, grace, and beauty to any wedding arrangement. We love the way the interior petals swirl and move, and the way they add softness and fullness to bouquets and centerpieces. They are the perfect flower for May weddings, since garden roses in the Pacific Northwest usually start blooming in May, and can continue to bloom throughout the summer. These are also some of the most expensive wedding flowers on the market, but they are totally worth the splurge!

Ranunculus

Pastel orange and pink ranunculus in the garden

Ranunculus offer even more ruffly, delicate spring beauty to May weddings in the Pacific Northwest. Many ranunculus varieties start blooming in April, but we actually prefer the blooms that are harvested and sold in May, since they have bigger heads, taller stems, and more feminine frilliness! They are such a reliable favorite in our studio for spring weddings, and we can’t live without them!

A bucket of pastel ranunculus sits in the garden

Poppies

A peach poppy sits in the field - the perfect May wedding flower

Poppies come in many shapes and sizes, but we specifically have a crush on these Icelandic poppies from our local growers. We love their watercolor-like petals, curvy and eccentric stems, and the character they add to spring wedding arrangements. For May weddings, poppies are in their prime and available in a wide variety of pastel peaches, pinks, and whites, as well as bolder colors like oranges and reds.

Pansies

A rainbow of pansies laid flat in an ombre pattern

Pansies begin blooming just in time for May weddings, and they are such a fun addition to the cut flower scene! Typically, pansies have short stems and grow close to the ground. More recently, breeders have developed varieties in muted, antique tones that are perfect for May wedding designs. And our local growers have mastered getting the maximum stem length out of these special pansy varieties. We can't get enough!

Foxglove

Peach and white foxglove on a wooden work bench

Foxglove can be such a lovely, artistic addition to May wedding flowers. We love the way the spires twist and bend in organic lines, and the fact that the bees love visiting them in the garden. Foxglove add height, interest, and structure to May wedding flowers and are a consistent favorite to work with for wedding design!

Lilac

A purple lilac in a May wedding flower arrangement

Lilac is one of our favorite May flowers because it has such a strong scent – and as a result, such a strong connection to our memories. Many couples love using lilac because of its nostalgia; it reminds them of a fond memory, like their grandmother’s garden, or a house they grew up in. We love lilac because it’s not only beautiful, but rare. It is only available for a couple weeks in May, and then it’s done until the next year! It is the perfect local, seasonal flower for a May wedding bouquet or floral installation.

Bainbridge Island Wedding | Raleigh + Sam

Bainbridge Island Wedding with Summer Blooms

This Bainbridge Island wedding will have you excited about warm, summer days! We absolutely loved seeing Raleigh and Sam finally tie the knot last summer at their parents' estate on Bainbridge Island. They wanted to create a dreamy, fresh look for their wedding - "not cookie-cutter arrangements like you may see elsewhere." Additionally, they felt excited about using the best of locally-grown and seasonal flowers, in a summer palette that was vibrant but sophisticated. After downsizing their wedding to only 50 guests, they decided to create a wearable flower bar for their guests - which was a huge hit! We were so honored to work with these two across two years to make this dreamy summer wedding a reality.

Bainbridge Island Weddings

Our team always gets excited when we get to travel for a wedding, no matter the distance! Of course, we love doing Bainbridge Island weddings not only because we get to take a ferry from Seattle, but also because it's such a beautiful place. We appreciate the small town charm, gorgeous landscapes, and water views that Bainbridge Island offers. For this wedding, we loved the intimate and gorgeous surroundings of Raleigh's parents' estate. Filled with lush gardens, manicured lawns, and a forest backdrop, this was as Pacific Northwest as you could get! The couple added a tented reception for an elegant summer soiree. We loved adding so much color to the natural beauty of the landscape, and celebrating the best of summer flowers!

Vibrant Summer Wedding Flowers

We used a wide variety of vibrant summer botanicals for these garden-inspired wedding florals! To begin, we started with a fun palette of dahlias, including the very first Cafe au Laits of the season. Additionally, our bride requested mums since those flowers held a special meaning for her, so we added some taupe mums into our designs. We also used a wide variety of white and blush flowers to soften the bright colors, including strawflower, lisianthius, and phlox. Of course, we had to include our favorite rudbeckia, which come in so many beautiful warm colors, from burgundy to gold. Lastly, we chose our favorite summer foliages and textures like ninebark, eucalyptus, and amaranth. We also draped the tent with greenery, which was a great choice! We loved layering these elements for a more wild, organic look in all of the floral designs. And we loved seeing these pops of color against the stunning backdrops of this private estate.

Floral Details to Remember

This wedding had so many memorable moments! We really enjoyed seeing our couple celebrate with friends and family after a year of waiting. Naturally, we also loved creating lush centerpieces, wearable flowers, and an arch floral installation for this wedding. But we particularly loved all the creativity that we got to use in this wedding! For example, we're still obsessed with Sam's botanical pocket square. We crafted this boutonniere alternative with a variety of little bits and textures, using the same materials we used in the larger designs. In addition, we designed a hairpiece for Raleigh and special floral earrings for her mother, which was so fun!

The couple decided to reduce their wedding guests to only 50 people, so we repurposed their original floral budget to make everyone feel extra special. We laid out a wearable flower bar for their guests, which included boutonnieres, bracelets, rings, and more! This was such a hit, and I absolutely loved seeing a variety of pieces on different guests - including floral earrings on men, boutonnieres on women, and everything in between! It was such a fun and non-traditional way to surprise and delight their guests. We also added gorgeous blooms to everyone's table setting, which added so much warmth and color to their reception setup. The way everything came together was so stunning!

The Wedding Experience

We loved working on these wedding designs with our couple and their parents, who did a lot of the planning. Here is what our couple had to say about working together:

"We LOVED working with Bloom Poet. Our main goal was to create a dreamy, fresh look for our wedding. We were blown away after the first meeting with Carolyn on how creative and thorough her ideas were. Not only was working with her simple and fun, but the floral work was astounding. Everything was breathtaking. The flowers, including the bouquet, tent greenery and wearable flower pieces, were some of the main comments I got about our wedding! If you want a florist who is trustworthy, creative, and deeply invested in every part of the process, Bloom Poet is who you should hire. Carolyn and her team were so patient, kind and cooperative (especially when planning an event during COVID). I have told many other friends getting married about your work and encourage them to use you. We love you! And you became one of my mom's favorite people and business-owners. You were so compassionate and I had complete trust in you the entire time. I think more than any other vendor, we knew we could let you do your thing and knew it was going to be incredible. That was the greatest gift you could ever give us on the wedding day!"

Bride and groom standing on porch

Her mom also had some truly wonderful things to say about our experience of working together:

"You have been such a joy to work with. Once I met you, I trusted you would create a fabulous floral experience! You were open to trying new kinds of flowers to support our ideas. You communicated ideas and updates regularly so we always knew what to expect. It was especially helpful that you created a color/mood board early on for the wedding. The bride and I referred to that resource often. Everything was beautiful! The bridal bouquet, out-of-this-world centerpieces, and ceremony gazebo were stunning! Just what we envisioned with loose, varied, and plentiful arrangements in the bride's color palette. It definitely did not look like anything I've seen before. Of course, I also loved all of the individual flowers you created for our guests. My floral earrings were a hit! I appreciated how well you listened and captured what we, mostly the bride, wanted. You brought a great balance of combining your expertise and experience with flowers and our suggestions and vision to create final products that really worked. Carolyn knows what she is doing. She is an artist. She thinks and makes arrangements like an artist. If you want someone who can make something totally extraordinary and special, not cookie-cutter wedding arrangements like you may see elsewhere, then you want Carolyn."

Honestly? We LOVE our couples, and their families, so the feeling is mutual. We care deeply about the work we do, and it's so rewarding to help our couples create an unforgettable event. If you're ready to chat about your wedding, you can check your date using the button below.

Block 41 Wedding with Colorful Spring Flowers

Block 41 Wedding with Colorful Spring Flowers

This breathtaking spring Block 41 wedding editorial will have you swooning! We absolutely love working at Block 41, and were so excited to bring our unique style to this gorgeous venue for a chic black-tie celebration. We were inspired by specialty daffodils, which are some of the first blooms we get here in the PNW after a long winter. We added lots of other stunning botanicals, marble accents, and citrus details. We hope you love seeing these delicate spring blooms and artistic shots as much as we do!

Block 41 Weddings

Block 41 is a stunning wedding venue in Seattle, right in the heart of Belltown. We love Block 41 for its vibrant city setting, modern interiors, and the fact that their team is delightful to work with! It has two huge indoor spaces, as well as a courtyard with one of our favorite murals in the city. We really enjoy the wealth of white space at Block 41, because it allows it to transform into whatever you want. With that in mind, we knew we wanted to use colorful spring wedding florals to turn this space into a chic, black-tie affair. We loved using Block 41's circle arch for this dramatic wedding ceremony floral installation!

Modern, Chic Wedding Ceremony Flowers

To begin, we started with the large circular arch at Block 41. We used a wide array of botanical materials for this wedding floral installation, from garden roses to dried ferns. Of course, we chose all of our favorite spring blooms, too, including daffodils, tulips, poppies, and ranunculus. We loved layering the flowers and ferns, and creating several different focal areas based on color and texture. For example, we chose to go brighter orange on the ends of the arch, with more pastel and neutral tones in the middle. We also loved the contrast with the black chairs, which you can see in the nighttime image (credit to Barbie Hull).

We are absolutely obsessed with how this turned out! We were lucky to have sunshine that day, and the light streaming through the windows created such a dreamy setting for this ceremony. And we love the artistic images with the repeating flowers and hazy surroundings.

Black-Tie Wedding Reception

We also designed florals for the black-tie wedding reception at Block 41, including a gorgeous King's Table for the wedding party. We continued to go for a light and airy feeling, but chose to be a little more bold with our colors here. We used marble accents like chargers and candleholders to elevate the design, and also incorporated bright citrus touches on the tables themselves. Our florals for tables were almost entirely bud vases and small ceramic vessels, grouped together to create a multi-layered look. We considered color, height, dimension, and texture in our groupings, so we used a wide mix of botanicals and vessels to create one-of-a-kind look. We absolutely love the way this came together with rentals from CORT and menus from Blake Design Studio.

The couple's reception also included a glam champagne tower, a balloon arch, a neon sign, and of course, cake! We loved all of it, and were so thrilled with how it turned out. Of course, we enjoyed working with our other vendors to make sure there were florals for both the balloons and the cake table! We also loved the disco balls above their head table - such a fun touch! (Disco balls are definitely having a moment right now.)

Block 41 Wedding Design Details

We loved working on these wedding designs with planner Carly at Emerald Engagements, and all of our fellow vendors! We originally considered an all black-and-white setting, but we wanted to try something a little different by adding some bold citrusy tones. Carly also suggested working with marble accents instead of strictly black or white, and I'm so glad we went in this direction! We also relished in the details of our couple's personal flowers and bouquet. We were really inspired by the citrus Carly and I talked about, but wanted to ensure the florals were not too bright or garish. As a result, we ended up with a sophsticated palette of neutrals, blushes, taupes, and peaches with little pops of orange.

Block 41 wedding bridal bouquet in sophisticated color palette of taupes, blushes, and orange

We chose a truly stunning array of botanicals for this unique color palette, using all the best of spring. Delicate blooms like parrot tulips, ranunculus, specialty daffodils, butterfly ranunculus, and poppies made the cut. We also used a wide palette of roses, from buttery yellow garden roses to toffee-colored stunners. And in our floral installation work, we also added dried bracken fern for a wonderfully taupe base, as well as grapefruits, blood oranges, and clementines on the tables. These botanicals matched perfectly with the invitation suite as well. We love this chic, vibrant palette and how uniquely modern it felt at Block 41!

We wanted to also share a few images of what the wedding and venue looked like after the sun set. We loved using more bud vases and citrus for these chic cocktail tables with black velvet linens! And of course, it is always fun to see floral installations in different lighting. Thanks to Barbie Hull for these three nighttime images!

Kelley Farm Wedding | Corinna + Conor

Kelley Farm Wedding with Lush Blooms

Somehow, we always get to work with the sweetest couples - and Corinna and Conor are no exception. Since 2019, we worked together to design a dreamy lavender wedding at Kelley Farm for these two. Unfortunately, their wedding date moved three times - through three different seasons! Finally, we were able to design this Kelley Farm wedding in October 2021, and it was so worth the wait. It was such a joy to celebrate with these two and their wonderful families! Filled with gorgeous landscapes, lush blooms, and lots of smiles, the sheer happiness of this day is plain to see.

The Kelley Farm

Kelley Farm lies about an hour south of Seattle, with gorgeous rural scenery. We loved seeing some of their perennial flowers still blooming in the gardens! The stunning pasture also provided a perfect backdrop for photos of Corinna and Conor during their first look. Kelley Farm weddings can be inside or outside, depending on the weather. We got some breaks in the rain for photos, but also had a mega storm roll in! Ultimately, Corinna and Conor decided to hold the wedding indoors. Definitely the right call! On the inside of Kelley Farm, we love the rustic wood interior, the romantic curtains, and the opulent chandeliers. Additionally, we enjoyed creating a floral installation on the permanent arch at Kelley Farm. It is the perfect size for their space! Our couple also loved having separate cottages to get ready.

Preparing for the Ceremony

These two both had fabulous squads helping them get ready. The bride's side and the groom's side had separate spaces at Kelley Farm. However, the whole mood of both groups was so jubilant! Everyone was thrilled to be together celebrating these two. To begin, we delivered anenome boutonnieres to Conor and his groomsmen. We also brought cute bridesmaids bouquets to the girls, and flower petals to the flower girl. (Isn't she the cutest!?) We also gave Corinna her stunning cascading bouquet, which added so much glamour and drama to her bridal look. Of course, we made sure to give her lots of anenomes - her favorite - as well as a sophisticated mix of mauve and lavender flowers. We finished all of these pieces with hand-dyed silk ribbons from our local artisans.

First Look

Before the ceremony, Corinna and Conor had a first look on the grounds of Kelley Farm. First looks are a great way to have a private, intimate moment to reconnect with your spouse before the big celebration! First looks are always touching moments, but we can't get over how happy these two make each other. We feel genuinely lucky to work with couples who adore each other!

Kelley Farm Wedding Ceremony

After regrouping with their wedding party, Corinna and Conor made a stunning entrance to their ceremony. We lined the aisle with white rose petals, and added a romantic floral installation to the Kelley Farm wedding arch. We used greenery to soften the shape and mirror the curtain behind it. Additionally, we covered the right corner in a stunning mix of big lavender blooms, anenomes, and grey-green foliage. We love the way this ceremony setup came together!

Romantic Fall Wedding Reception

Throughout the planning process, the one thing that stayed constant was Corinna's desire to have a big dance party! Thankfully, all of their friends and family were on board with that plan. From all accounts, everyone had a great time! We used the floral arch as a backdrop for the reception, setting up Corinna and Conor's sweetheart table in front of it. For their table, we added extra florals, greenery, and candles to make it extra special. We also decorated their cake table with florals and greenery, and worked with the bakers to make sure some flowers made it onto the cake, too!

Kelley Farm Wedding Design Details

We loved crafting this floral palette in a moody mix of mauve, lavender, and white flowers. We used the best of what was seasonally available, including anenomes, carrot flowers, several types of roses, and stock. In addition, we added some interesting textured greenery, like the near-black agonis foliage that almost looks like fringe. You can also see this in Conor's boutonniere and Corinna's bouquet below. I particularly love the little mauve spray roses we included in these pieces! Believe it or not, they were an impulse buy at the flower market. But when I saw them, I knew we had to have them!

Fall Wedding Tips

First, fall is a super popular time to get married here in Seattle, and elsewhere in the country. So if you are planning a fall wedding, make sure you book your vendors early! That way, you will have plenty of time to make decisions, rather than scrambling to find someone.

Of course, you will also want to account for the weather. Sometimes we luck out and have gorgeous sunshine. Other times, it storms and the power goes out! (True story!) So, make sure you have rain plans in place. We always recommend hiring a wedding planner for this reason.

Lastly, we highly recommend being flexible about your flower choices in the fall. Since we prioritize local flowers, we are at the mercy of the last frost. Often, this frost happens in mid-October. We sometimes find ourselves with an abundance of "summer" flowers one week, and almost nothing local the next! So, hire a pro who can roll with the punches and make your wedding flawless no matter what.

Ready to talk about your wedding? We’d love to chat! We still have a few fall dates, too. You can check your date with us below.

Winter Destination Wedding at Mountain Springs Lodge | Pacifica + Evan

Winter Destination Wedding at Mountain Springs Lodge

From the moment I met with Pacifica, I knew this destination wedding would be absolute perfection. This winter wedding at Mountain Springs Lodge had it all - drama, glamour, and sweet, intimate moments. Pacifica was inspired by the snowy landscape, the towering mountains, and creating a refined and elegant experience for her intimate wedding.  Of course, we leaned into all of the luxurious details to ensure that this romantic destination wedding would be unforgettable.

Mountain Springs Lodge

Mountain Springs Lodge sits in a valley just outside of Leavenworth, WA in the Cascades. We love the way the landscape transforms across the seasons. In winter, the lodge receives a generous blanket of snow, allowing them to offer sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, and more. (You'll see why this detail matters later!) Naturally, it was a wonderful choice of venue for a destination wedding!

Romantic Winter Wedding Ceremony

To begin, Pacifica and Evan chose to hold their ceremony outside to embrace the incredible views of the mountains. The wedding ceremony took place just outside of Mountain Springs Lodge, next to their large fountain. We installed a lush floral wedding arch for the ceremony, complete with blooms and evergreen foliage. In addition, we lined the aisles with evergreen garland, all framing the view of the mountains perfectly. Amazingly, the lovely couple even got sunshine while reading their vows - perfection!

Of course, one of my favorite parts of this winter wedding was the handfasting ceremony. This ancient tradition is where “tying the knot” comes from! In this instance, we used luxurious hand-dyed silk ribbons from Silk & Willow for this handfasting ceremony. Pacifica and I were both obsessed with the one-of-a-kind blue botanical print ribbon, made with flower petals. You can see this stunning design in the second and third photos, as well as in her bridal bouquet.

After the ceremony, Pacifica and Evan had the perfect "just-married" smiles! Obviously, we love seeing how happy couples look right after their ceremony! Pacifica and Evan also made a particularly glamorous exit on a horse-drawn sleigh. Mountain Springs Lodge offers sleigh rides in the winter, which these two took full advantage of. I don't think we've ever seen a wedding exit quite so glamorous!

Elegant Winter Wedding Reception

Mountain Springs Lodge has a stunning rustic wood interior, which we transformed into an elegant, romantic experience for their guests through floral and event design. With event design, we help couples think through all of the aesthetics of their events. We source linens, place settings, and other rentals to create a cohesive design like this. Of course, for this wedding, no detail went unnoticed! From luxe velvet table linens to gorgeous wedding centerpieces, we ensured that Pacifica and Evan’s destination wedding would have an elegant and refined look throughout.

Destination Wedding Design Details

Pacifica and Evan asked us to do both floral and event design for this destination wedding, which we loved! For this winter wedding, Pacifica knew she wanted to incorporate evergreens and anemones in her designs, with a pop of blue. We used white flowers like anenomes, ranunculus, roses, and stock for all of our florals. Additionally, we incorporated touches of silver brunia, touches of blue delphinium, and lots of Pacific Northwest evergreens. And for her bouquet, we used the same stunning hand-dyed botanical silk ribbon that was used in the handfasting ceremony. Personally, I am obsessed with her hairpiece - I would wear this every day if I could! We also have to note here that both Pacifica and Evan have amazing hair and style!!

In addition, we designed all the details of the wedding reception to create elegant, romantic tablescapes. We used navy velvet linens and gauzy white table runners as a base for these lush floral arrangements. Then, we also added romantic taper candles on antique silver bases. Along with candles, we used several rentals from CORT Party Rentals for the place settings, including silver beaded chargers, silver-rimmed glasses, and chic silverware. Lastly, we added green velvet napkins, floral touches, and the gorgeous menus and customized name cards to every plate. We love the way the overall look came together!

Destination Wedding Tips

First, if you are planning a destination wedding, make sure you visit your venue before booking! You will want to be able to envision your wedding day. Plus, it’s a great excuse for a long weekend away.

Of course, destination weddings are also more logistically challenging for your vendors. Make sure you choose vendors who love to travel, and are willing to do so. It’s also a great idea to have a wedding planner who can help with all the moving pieces.

Lastly, we highly recommend that you stay at your destination for several days before the wedding! You don’t want to worry about jet lag, travel times, or other logistics right before your wedding day. Instead, arrive early enough to enjoy your destination for a few days and unwind before the big day.

Chateau Lill Wedding with Romantic Spring Blooms | Alina + Neema

Chateau Lill Wedding with Romantic Spring Blooms

We absolutely love working weddings at Chateau Lill - formerly known as Delille Cellars - for lots of reasons. First, this venue brings the perfect mix of modern and old-world charm. We love its European-inspired architecture and lush, manicured gardens. Located in Woodinville, it is removed enough from Seattle to feel like you are in a new destination, without actually being that far away. Additionally, we love the versatility of the space. Somehow, Chateau Lill is the perfect choice for weddings both big and small.

We were so thrilled to work with all of our very talented collaborators on this gorgeous spring Chateau Lill wedding editorial! And we can't say enough nice things about these fantastic film images from Tetiana Photography.

Chateau Lill Wedding Design Inspiration

We designed this stunning spring wedding editorial as a modern, romantic twist on classic black and white. As always, we felt inspired by the gorgeous bounty of flowers that spring provides. We really enjoyed highlighting some of our favorite spring blooms. Moreover, we also realized that the large garden hedge at Chateau Lill is not often used for weddings and events. So, we took on the challenge of using it as a focal piece for the ceremony, transforming it into a dreamy floral gateway.

Of course, we also designed a floral dog collar for Belle, the golden retriever. How could you not!? She totally stole the show.

Seasonal Flowers for April Wedding at Chateau Lill

Since we prioritize local flowers, we always find inspiration from the seasons in our designs. For this romantic April wedding at Chateau Lill, we chose the most delicate local spring blooms. Some of our favorites included anenomes, tulips, fritillaria, and flowering tulip magnolia. Additionally, we love that spring blooms can be so dark they are almost black. We played with this dynamic to deepen the overall effect of the color palette. We also added some black palm spears for a little extra edginess, while still staying true to our lush and romantic surroundings. Lastly, we chose mauve and blush accents to bridge the transition from white to black. These choices allow for a more effortless, romantic effect. We absolutely love the way this spring floral palette came together in the gorgeous gardens of Chateau Lill.

Chateau Lill Wedding Details

Our teammates did such a wonderful job on this Chateau Lill wedding editorial. We're obsessed with all the small details - from the black and gold place settings, to the gorgeous menus and velvet linens. Of course, we loved incorporating lush floral wedding centerpieces on this sophisticated, romantic wedding table.

Alina's dress also blew us away! What a gorgeous pick from The Dress Theory. We love the romantic sweetheart neckline and simple silhouette of this gown. It mirrored the balance of delicate and modern we tried to achieve in our floral designs.

Lastly, we have to share how stunning this invitation suite looks next to our white spring blooms! Obviously, Krisanna does incredibly beautiful work. It's always a joy to see what she comes up with. In particular, I love that little black wax seal, perfectly reflected in the center of the anenome.

We are so excited looking ahead to our wedding season this year, and hopefully many more Chateau Lill weddings to come. It's such a wonderful venue! And we find it so easy to make this venue even more stunning through seasonal floral design. We hope to be back very soon!

Couture Flower Dress for American Flowers Week 2021

Couture Flower Dress for American Flowers Week 2021

Every year right before July 4th, we join the Slow Flowers Society for a celebration of American Flowers Week! Together we celebrate American-grown flowers in all 50 states, and designers from all over the country are paired with local growers to create botanical couture fashion. This year, we were one of 12 designers selected to create a couture look for American Flowers Week! This couture look was SO much fun to create, and you can see all 12 designs (as well as the stories behind them) in this amazing, free flip book. They are all such wonderful creations, and I am so grateful to be in such an elite group of artists! Below, you'll see our final couture look.

Why Floral Couture?

There are so many great reasons to celebrate flowers with floral couture. For starters, dresses made out of flowers are STUNNING to look at! More importantly, they also elevate flowers as an artistic medium, and floral design as the art that it truly is. Projects like this allow us to really flex our creativity and show what can be done with flowers as an art form. These designs also allow us to highlight the various growing regions, seasons, and talented growers all across the country! It is truly amazing to see the botanical diversity and high quality of product in the cut flower industry here in the US. For many reasons, I prefer to use American-grown flowers. However, the biggest reason is that the quality and diversity are much better compared to imported blooms. I mean...just LOOK at these.

Couture Fashion Inspiration

For our couture look, Debra Prinzing of Slow Flowers asked me about doing a full dress made of hellebores. Hellebores are a very favorite flower of mine, so OF COURSE I said yes! I love hellebores because they are winter-blooming, and basically are the first things to bloom in my garden every year. For example, some varieties can bloom as early as January, and they continue blooming and changing colors until May and June. By contrast, our local “spring” flowers – tulips and daffodils – don’t even really start until late March. Hellebores can also bloom in the snow! And as a cut flower, they are quite rare and expensive, which makes me love them more. It’s uncommon to be able to work with them en masse because it would be so costly, so I jumped at this opportunity.

Buckets of hellebores in the studio prior to creating the flower dress

Debra paired me with Pamela Youngsman of Poppy Starts, who provides plant plugs to growers all over the Pacific Northwest. Pamela has a fantastic collection of hellebore plants that she offered to cut from, as well as a large network of other growers in the Skagit valley. Together, we looked at photos of her garden, as well as new varieties, to develop a color palette. I also knew I wanted to highlight the hellebore in its most exquisite and unexpected form, which was blooming from the snow. You can see her beautiful blooms above, and her beautiful face with our model, Tasia, below!

Hellebore grower Pamela on the left, holding an umbrella for our model Tasia, on the right

After that, I looked at couture fashion, and especially fell in love with the haute couture work of Iris van Herpen. I love so many things about this designer, including her avant-garde silhouettes, her obvious inspirations from nature in the way her garments move and flow, and her commitment to sustainability. Inspired by her designs, I realized that using only one flower meant that the structure of the dress itself had to look interesting, avant-garde, and futuristic. Then, I put together a mood board incorporating all of these elements: the sophisticated color palette of the hellebores, the snow, avant-garde silhouettes, and the futuristic feeling I wanted to capture. In my head, a story developed of a fierce visitor from another time and planet, who was searching for a place to plant more hellebores.

Making the Couture Look

I sketched a million couture ideas, but eventually settled on a silhouette with big shoulders, inspired by the blue and peach dress in the mood board. It had to be simple enough to execute but dramatic enough to make a statement! After rummaging through my closet, I found an old dress given to me by a friend that I hadn’t worn in ages. I used this dress as the base, took it in based on our model’s measurements, and added an encasement on the shoulders that I stuffed with poly-fill from the craft store (see below). I then glued moss over the dress fabric, and was ready to start gluing hellebores!

A bunch of green and white hellebores
The dress in progress

Incredibly, every single hellebore on this couture dress was hand-glued with cold glue. I estimate that I used about 500 flowers, or around 150 stems. I started at the top of the dress with that dramatic dark red hellebore, because it was so eye-catching in my studio. I definitely wanted to highlight the little cutout in the neckline with a bold color.

Closeup of the cutout detail on the flower dress

From there, I continued to work my way down the dress in an ombre color palette. I was so inspired by the way the hellebore tones blended into each other so seamlessly. Pamela had such beautiful flowers that it was really easy to make something gorgeous.

A close up of the ombre flowers

For the couture headpiece, I was really inspired by a look from Iris van Herpen, which you can see in the mood board (bottom right). In the videos of her fashion show, that head piece actually moves beautifully – almost exactly like a sea creature, which feels very alien. I wanted to replicate the feeling of this avant-garde, organically shaped crown, without it being a literal crown. I played a lot with scale on this couture headpiece, using hellebores from various stages of bloom to make bigger or smaller gradations. The base itself was made from rustic wire covered in silver bouillon wire, and the hellebores were simply glued on. I absolutely LOVE the way this came out!

A close up of the floral headpiece created for American Flowers Week 2021

Couture Photo Shoot in the Snow

At this point, we relied on our network of wedding and event professionals to round out the creative team. Somehow, I lucked out and found Tasia, our model, who no longer models professionally. But she still remembers exactly how to work a camera! I asked Missy Palacol to be our photographer, since she is one of our go-to photographers for product shoots. And I reached out to Luxe Artistry Seattle for help with hair and makeup, who assigned Deleana Guerrerro to us. We wanted Deleana to use her own creativity for this shoot, and she totally nailed it!! I love the petal-like effects she put in the makeup, and the fact that Tasia’s hair was perfectly done for the couture headpiece.

Petal effect makeup close up

All of us headed out to Hyak Sno Park in Snoqualmie Pass, which still had plenty of snow in early March. I kid you not – it rained the ENTIRE time we were there, despite a week of bluebird days before and after. However, with lots of umbrellas, hand warmers, and a heated bathroom for Tasia to take breaks in, we made magic happen! We confused a lot of snowshoers and skiiers in the bathroom hallway, but we were so thrilled with the results of this couture collaboration.

Willows Lodge Wedding with Fall Colors | Cassie + Ali

Willows Lodge Wedding with Romantic Fall Vibes

If you have followed along with us for a while, you know we absolutely LOVE to design with seasonal flowers that embrace a particular time and place. So when I first spoke with Cassie about her plans for her Willows Lodge wedding, I knew it was going to be such a gorgeous wedding day!

Cassie and Ali are Seattleites who absolutely love to travel. In 2020, they had booked a trip to Jamaica for the end of the year – and decided to turn that into a honeymoon. I absolutely loved their spontaneity and sense of humor about “getting married on a deadline.” (Especially because my husband and I did something very similar to join the Peace Corps together!) So right from the start, I knew these two would be adventurous and ready to try some new ideas.

Wedding Design Inspiration

From the beginning, Cassie and Ali knew they wanted their wedding to be romantic, soft, and intimate. Cassie told me she loves neutral tones with some fall and seasonal influence, which was music to my ears. She also told me that she loved intimate weddings that were not overdone – no glitter, no neon, and no kitsch! In her words, it was all about “quality over quantity,” which is a key focus for us as well. Clearly, we were a great fit from our very first meeting!

a seasonal wequet with roses, heirloom mums, grevillea foliage, and orchidsdding bou

Seasonal Wedding Flowers

We were inspired to look at the best of what is locally available in November, which includes stunning heirloom mums. Our color palette was a mix of fall colors inspired by these mums, like taupes, burnt oranges, and burgundies, paired with classic neutrals. We kept their whole design very understated and elegant to accentuate the warm wood details and muted, wintery garden backdrop of the Willows Lodge gazebo.

We were so honored to bring seasonal beauty to Cassie and Ali for their gorgeous Willows Lodge wedding day! Scroll below to see all the beautiful photos.

Willows Lodge Garden Gazebo

The ceremony took place in the garden gazebo, which was tented for the winter. There were plenty of heaters that kept all of the guests nice and toasty! The gazebo is surrounded by lush gardens that provide so much beauty throughout the year. We loved bringing such seasonally-inspired blooms to a cozy winter space like this.

November Wedding Flowers

The focal point of this Willows Lodge wedding design was the triangle arch within the Gazebo tent. We loved having the garden in the background, with so many gorgeous fall-inspired wedding flowers in the foreground. Our bride chose a triangle arch to add a little bit of boho flair to this elegant, timeless design.

We enjoyed sourcing local flowers in November, despite the challenges! We used locally grown heirloom mums, roses, and dried elements like lunaria in all of these wedding florals. We also sourced some beautiful white snapdragons, grevillea foliage, and eucalyptus from our friends in California. As a luxurious finishing touch, we added burgundy orchids to all of these designs. We love the final transformation!

No Reception? No Problem!

We encountered a few challenges during this wedding. Most importantly, we had planned for a full reception with centerpieces on round tables. But the week before the wedding, all of the COVID rules changed! Couples were no longer allowed to have any receptions, so we scrapped that plan altogether. However, I love that Cassie and Ali took the opportunity to be photographed with some of the local residents of the gardens at the Willows Lodge. Talk about a one-of-a-kind wedding photo!

Fall Foliage at the Willows Lodge

We also have to mention how stunning the fall foliage looked in Woodinville in November. The Willows Lodge has so many beautiful plants and trees on the grounds, and these images took my breath away. It’s no wonder that fall weddings remain so popular!

We had so much fun creating this intimate, romantic, fall-inspired wedding at the Willows Lodge! The space was perfect for the wedding that Cassie and Ali had imagined, and we loved flowering it. The Willows Lodge wedding and catering staff were also super helpful, easy to work with, and resourceful during all of the challenges of 2020. We can’t wait to work there again!
